Two Dead, Eight Rescued As Building Collapses In Kano
The Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has reported that among the nine casualties that have so far been retrieved alive following Tuesday night’s collapse of the three-story building close to Beirut GSM Market, one person passed away in the hospital, BRANDNEWSDAY learnt.
Musa Abdullah, the branch secretary, confirmed the tragedy and revealed that a Kano Electricity Distribution Company worker had also died in the catastrophe.
“A staff of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, who was trying to disconnect the building from the high tension but unfortunately, the power that was already shut down from the transformer, technically relayed back and trapped him which led to his death on the spot,” he said.
Similarly, the National Emergency Management Agency has verified that among the eight rescued casualties who were transferred to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, one of them passed away.

As of Tuesday night at 9:10 p.m., eight people had been saved and transferred to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, according to a statement released by Manzo Ezekiel, Head, NEMA Press Unit Abuja.
“Sadly, one of them was confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital, six with minor injuries were treated and discharged.”
Manzo described how NEMA was informed of the incident and swiftly sent emergency personnel to the area to aid in rescue attempts.
He stated that a NEMA Search and Rescue team from the Agency’s Kano Territorial Office was also dispatched to the location in order to assist and coordinate the rescue attempt.

According to a statement from Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer for the Kano Fire Service, eight victims had been successfully saved.
He described the people by name as Naziru Abdulkadir, 24, Magaji Abubakar, 27, Abdurauf Muhammad, 38, and Minjibir Ibrahim, 46.
The other members are Abdurashid Basiru, 36, Danladi Lawan, 29, Ahmad Buhari Haruna, 16, and Sadiq Haruna, 19.
The statement stated that no lives were lost at the location of the tragedy and that all patients were successfully recovered alive with varied types of injuries.
