Group Backs Peter Obi, Urges Wike Not To Support Atiku, Tinubu
A group, Non-indigenes Association in Rivers State has urged Governor Nyesom Wike to support Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, in his bid to win the 2023 election, BRANDNEWSDAY report.
They encouraged Wike to stay with Obi, the former governor of Anambra State who is considerably younger than his two other main opponents.
High Chief Felix Ogbegbor, the association’s chairman, made the announcement during a press conference in Port Harcourt.
Wike shouldn’t, according to Ogbegbor, make the error of endorsing Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, both of whom lack anything to offer the nation.
They argued that Obi had a better plan to reposition the nation and that he did a good job as governor of Anambra State, leaving a clean record.

In their request for Wike to back Peter Obi, Ogbegbor highlighted that among the three candidates put out by the APC, PDP, and LP, Peter Obi stands out and is most favoured due to his track record of performance and integrity.
He asserted that Tinubu and Atiku are unable to lead the country out of its current economic and security difficulties and that Nigeria does not currently require a leader who is older than 70.
He said, “I think Peter Obi is the best person that Wike should support. Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu don’t have anything to offer.
“If you look at it, Atiku, when he was the Vice President, he was busy buying Nigeria. Tinubu is out of the race because he bought the whole of Lagos as a governor.
“If Atiku and Tinubu cannot step down, Wike should support Peter Obi. We don’t need an elderly person in that office again. The others are above 70 and we don’t need people now.

“If Wike supports Obi, we will be right behind him,” he said, saying the association comprising non+indigenes across the country has passed a conference vote on Governor Wike.
He, further stated that the Governor has proven himself to be a capable leader and that the association would only sponsor and support Wike-backed candidates.
“Governor of Rivers State is a pride of the people. Wike has all it takes to be Nigeria’s president. We are here to support a young man who knows what it takes to please his people.
“Wike for the past seven years we have not seen the kind of development he is driving before. He always attracts good things to Rivers State.
“That is why we have decided to follow him. Whatever he (Wike) says we should do that is what we will do.
“What person he wants to vote we will. Anywhere he goes we will go,” the association’s chairman said.
