BREAKING: MTN Halts Subscribers From Recharging Using USSD
MTN Nigeria has blocked its subscribers from recharging their mobile phones or buying data using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) codes.
Recall that on Friday the Punch Newspaper reported that Nigerian Banks have barred MTN Nigeria using thee banks USSD codes and mobile apps across their channel.
Brandnewsday understands that MTN subscribers would not be able to re recharge their lines or buy data plans using the USSD codes particularly by using their banks’ platforms.

This is coming in less than a month the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) appealed to Telecom providers to extend the limit before Nigerian banks customers will cease using the USSD code across banking channels due to the huge debt.
Moving on, this was made known through feedback patrons get when efforts were made to recharge via USSD code, My MTNapp, and FinTech firms like FETS, the response reads:
“Dear Customer, this service is temporarily unavailable. Kindly contact your Telecom service provider.”
MTN Nigeria also confirmed the development in a mail sent to some of its partners, which in part reads:
“Dear Customer, Please be informed that some of My customers may not be able to purchase airtime, and data recharge via banks including MOD, and myMTNApp.
Please pacify Mycustomers and educate them to use MTNTopit, MoMo channels, as well as the debit card options on MOD or myMTN App.”
