Tiv Crisis – The Tiv Culture and Social Association, Taraba State on Monday appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to facilitate the deployment of security for the safety of the Tiv internally displaced persons who are returning to their homes in Wukari Local Government Area of the State.
President General of the Association, Chief James Baka who made the call at a press briefing in Jalingo also called on the Taraba state and Federal Government to provide relief materials to the IDPs returnees and double up efforts at resettling majority of them who are still living in difficult situations outside the state.
“We want to call on the State and Federal government not to hesitate, but to deploy all immediate and necessary means, especially in the areas of providing security for the returning Internally Displaced Persons in Wukari and other Local Government Areas in the southern part of the State.
“We urge the government of Taraba State under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas to personally visit the returning IDPs in Wukari. This will give them a spirit of belonging and will also give them confidence in the governor’s resolve to end the crisis.
“We call on private, cooperative, and spirited individuals to come to the aid of our people by providing relief materials and other support services.
“As a peace-loving people, we are determined to make peace, and that is why we are worried over the protracted crisis and the inability of the immediate past administration in the state to end the crisis which has been on since 1st April 2019.”
While expressing the hope that the Agbu Kefas-led administration will end the crisis, the association condemns the action of the Nigerian Army who are supposed to give protection to the IDPs but has decided to take sides by always chasing the returning IDPs who have been making efforts to return to their homes back to into the IDPs camps.
