BrandNewsDay reports that the first IRIS-T SLM Air Defense System from Germany has now been delivered to Ukraine which contains 3 Launchers with 24 missiles.
On February 24, Russian forces invaded Ukraine from the north, including from Belarus, from the south out of Crimea, and from the east.
Recall that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Putin-led army had earlier forces seized two small cities in southeastern Ukraine and the area around a nuclear power plant but ran into stiff resistance elsewhere as Moscow’s diplomatic and economic isolation deepened.
Similarly, recently Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of four Ukrainian cities and he vowed not to go back over his decision.
In a similar vein, BrandNewsDay Nigeria had reported that Russia successfully tested the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with President Putin boasting the nuclear-capable projectile will make Moscow’s enemies “think twice”.
Meanwhile, despite fear appearing in the chin of several western countries that if any other country intervenes in the Ukraine-Russia war, it might be escalated to what was described as World War III.
Germany, which has been battling in maintaining gas supply after Russia cut off all supplies of gas to the country came forward as the first country to openly support Ukraine with arms despite President Putin’s warning that nobody should interfere.
According to a tweet, ”The first IRIS-T SLM Air Defense System from Germany has now been delivered to Ukraine and it has 3 Launchers with 24 missiles”.
The IRIS-T (“InfraRed Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector-Controlled”) is a German-led program to develop a short to the medium-range infrared homing air-to-air missile to replace the AIM-9 Sidewinder found in some NATO member countries. Any aircraft capable of firing the Sidewinder is also capable of launching the IRIS-T.
A surface-to-air missile variant is used for IRIS-T SLM, an air defence system.
