The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has indicated that Nigeria might continue to experience insecurity, insurgency and terrorism, and may continue for another 20 years.
Brandnewsday understands that Buratai made this known on his verified Facebook handle few days after Boko Haram executed rice farmers in Borno State.
Recall that the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist had beheaded about 110 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Jere Local Government Area of the North-East state.
Reacting to the development after the horror incidence that transpired in Borno, Buratai, however, stated that Nigerians generally misunderstand what insurgency and terrorism mean.
According to the Army boss: “There is a general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail. There is a likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years.
“Citizens responsibility is equally important and imperative. All must cooperate to contain the lingering insecurity. Let there be collective action and responsibility.”
Meanwhile, recall that the Senate has ordered President Muhammadu Buhari to commence with the replacement of service chiefs following the inhumane killing of 110 farmers.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan advised President Buhari to immediately restructure the country’s security structure to foster the fight against terrorism and to secure lives of citizens.
Recall that 43 farmers were recently killed by the dreaded Boko-Haram terrorist while working on a rice farm in Borno State. Thus, as caused outcry from Nigerians and deep criticism across the globe over the state of Nigeria’s security.
