Easy Steps: How To Apply For National Young Farmers Scheme

In an effort to reduce unemployment in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has launched the National Young Farmers Scheme which will engage 1,000 youth in each of the 774 local councils areas in agriculture.

The National Young Farmers Scheme is an initiative under the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA).

Brandnewsday reports that President Buhari made this known that the newly launched scheme would be part of his administration’s effort to reduce unemployment and contribute to the regeneration of agriculture and the country’s economy.

On the same note, he revealed those who can become beneficiaries of the Young Farmers Scheme, in his words, he stated that the ‘Scheme will take in young Nigerians, graduates and non-graduates alike’.

“I now flag off the National Young Farmers’ Scheme. It is my expectation that the Scheme will take in young Nigerians, graduates and non-graduates alike, and be part of this Government’s effort to reduce unemployment and contribute to the regeneration of agriculture and our economy,” President Buhari stated.

Numbers of People To Benefits from the Farmers Scheme

Under the Farmers Scheme (NYFS), National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) intend to inject 774,000 new farmers into the agricultural sector. They are currently running a pilot programme that involves 100 farmers from each of the 774 LGAs of the country.

This is intended to help improve and create an enabling environment for young farmers and those interested in farming to thrive and also, to ensure food security in Nigeria.
