Following the recent ban of motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) on major roads in Lagos State, the state government extended its sanction on the top two ride-hailing services– Taxify and Uber.

The announcement of the ban on tricycles and motorcycles became effective on the 1st of February, 2020, therefore, causing a lot of pandemonium between commercial riders and law enforcement officers.

Okada and Keke Maruwa appear to be the only source of livelihood for many individuals and some breadwinners of the family, however, they have been taken away from these people. After the hullabaloo, the registered riders the likes of Oride, Max.ng and Gokada have protested the ban that was extended to these registered platforms, unfortunately, the state government turned deaf ears to their plea without no bargain, going in full force in activating this law.

In addition, the Lagos State Government has further taken its sanctions to ride-Hailing services too, leading to the arrest and detentions of cars of some drivers over any slight provocations.

Corollarily, many a driver has taken it upon themselves to evade arrest from these law enforcement officers, acting upon the directives of the state government.
