Unarguably, Uber and Taxify are the most used ride-hailing ventures in Lagos and Abuja respectively, for a comfortable ride.
Following the recent ban of motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) on major roads in Lagos State, the state government extended its sanction on the top two ride-hailing services– Taxify and Uber.
The announcement of the ban on tricycles and motorcycles became effective on the 1st of February, 2020, therefore, causing a lot of pandemonium between commercial riders and law enforcement officers.
Okada and Keke Maruwa appear to be the only source of livelihood for many individuals and some breadwinners of the family, however, they have been taken away from these people. After the hullabaloo, the registered riders the likes of Oride, Max.ng and Gokada have protested the ban that was extended to these registered platforms, unfortunately, the state government turned deaf ears to their plea without no bargain, going in full force in activating this law.
In addition, the Lagos State Government has further taken its sanctions to ride-Hailing services too, leading to the arrest and detentions of cars of some drivers over any slight provocations.
Corollarily, many a driver has taken it upon themselves to evade arrest from these law enforcement officers, acting upon the directives of the state government.
Apply the below methods:
Here are some ways the drivers of these hailing services avoid law enforcement officers:
1. Avoid Using Phone Holders:
Remove the phone holders from your help to relieve you the stress of being stopped by these officers. Despite this is often used for navigation and make it easy to have access to your phone. It will be pleased, if you want to avoid them you have to stop hanging your phone on it.
2. Using Of NYSC Uniforms:
As a Uber and Taxify drivers, Corp members who use this service as their means of livelihood have stated that wearing their uniforms or putting their caps and belts on the screen have avoided the officers from stopping them
3. Leaving Early mornings:
Leaving early in the morning before the officers step out has also been an effective way of avoiding them
4. Following Traffic Laws:
Following the traffic rules, these officers will find it hard to stop you or try to arrest you.
5. Avoid parking on the roads:
By applying every possible means to stay out of every trouble is an ideal thing that keeps you out of trouble.
A friend was arrested around Lekki axis, while he was waiting to pick a rider. Some LASTMA officials claimed that he parked by the roadside.
Therefore, they threatened to toll his car to their office. Until he gave them 10k before they let him go after wasted hours of pleading.
