Governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki, for emerging as the party’s governorship candidate.
Brandnewsday reports that the governors made this known in a statement signed by the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Friday.
Recalled that the Edo State Governor defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) after he was disqualified by the party’s screening committee from contesting in the party’s primaries.
Their Edo State counterpart, Obaseki clinched the PDP’s party governorship ticket and will be representing the party in the September 19, 2020 election in the state.
Reacting to the Edo State Governor’s victory, Tambuwal said that Obaseki’s victory in the primaries proved that the people of Edo State support the Governor.
According to the Sokoto State Governor, Obaseki’s victory is a demonstration of the role of God in the affairs of men.
Tambuwal said: “The Edo State Governor’s victory should be a humbling one as it has been achieved on the backdrop of a grave injustice done to him by his former political party (APC).
“It is indeed a call to continue faithfully serving the good people of Edo State.”
Obaseki emerged as the first runner and became the flagbearer of the party in the concluded Edo PDP primary which was held Thursday, 25 June.
Meanwhile, Obaseki had a free run towards securing the party governorship’s ticket, garnered 1,952 votes, out of the total accredited 2,024. Also, a total of 72 votes were invalid.
