Eidil-Fitr: Inspector-General Of Police Speaks On Religious Gatherings

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has hinted that no religious gatherings will be tolerated in the country.

Adamu, who reassured citizens of adequate security during and after the 2020 Eid-el-Fitri celebration also appealed them on compliances.

Brandnewsdeay reports that the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, made this known in a statement released on Friday.

The Inspector-General of Police felicitated the Muslims faithful and all Nigerians.

“There are proactive and robust anti-crime measures, including the deployments of tactical and intelligence assets. Were already all in place,” the Police PRO noted confirmed.

According to Mba, there is a confidence that with collective perseverance and voluntary compliance to preventive regulations. Nigeria would overcome coronavirus disease.

Speaking further on the interstates movements, the IGP reiterated that “the COVID-19 prevention regulation orders, the interstate movement restriction, national curfew and the prohibition of religious gatherings were still in force”.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police appealed citizens to observe the Eid celebrations bearing in mind the unusual times occasioned by the outbreak.

Recall that the FG placed a ban on all religious gathering in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19. This was in line with the recommendation given by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that social distancing. It becomes imperative in order to avoid the continuous spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, in the latest report by the NCDC, Nigeria has now recorded a total of 7,261 cases of COVID-19.  Since the index case hits the country. 2,007 patients have been treated and discharged, with 221 total death cases recorded so far.
