There are several questions hanging and begging for answers by the good people of Imo State; and Nigeria at large, over the missing 19.63 billion during the administration of Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
The glamour of the imported Mercedes Benz Sprinter valued at ₦187 million for the office of the Governor, would leave no doubt over the alleged missing 19. 63 Billion traced to the former governor during his days in office.
Several controversies are trailing the misappropriation of funds in Imo State in less than a year. Recall that in many Nigerian dailies, it was sensationally confusing how Governor Ihedioha was at the forefront and war front in probing his predecessor over misappropriation of public funds and mismanagement of the state resources.
Leaving many progressive Imolites to asked if the governor is prioritizing witch-hunting or he is in for the real game of liberating his state to the promised land as their chosen messiah.
Recently, the Imo State House of Assembly had disclosed that the factual findings on the alleged misappropriation of the local government funds under Emeka Ihedioha’s administration would be sent to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further action.
The Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts Committee, PAC, Chigozie Nwaneri, alongside members of his committee, disclosed this in Owerri, even as they said that the work on the report had gone up to 50 per cent.
According to them that the moves made by Ihedioha to stop the probe was a waste of time and that Ihedioha was not properly guided on his actions as such he was not informed on the constitutional powers of the state House of Assembly.
Subsequently, revealing what was concealed about the ₦187 million Mercedes Benz, the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba talked about the Mercedes Benz Sprinter, in a radio programme in Owerri a few days ago. The commissioner aired that no governor with the love of his people at heart should aim at riding in such a multi-million car.
Speaking further, the commissioner revealed that the ₦187 million Mercedes Benz arrived the port 30 days after Ihedioha was kicked out of the office. It was therefore confiscated, as soon as the information reached Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Reacting to the allegation, Iheadioha debunked the allegation claiming it is a distraction strategy by the governor. This was made known in a statement by the Imo PDP Secretary Nze Ray Emeana.
According to Nze: “a mere distraction from the obvious failure within the 100 days of the administration of Senator Hope Uzodinma”.
