Telecommunications and ICT company, MTN Nigeria is turning 20 on Sunday, August 8, 2021, and has said it plans to make Nigeria the centre of its celebrations.

MTN began operations in Nigeria in 2001. 20 years later, it has become an integral part of Nigeria’s telecommunications success story.

Knowing MTN, we have no doubt that the company will surprise Nigeria. They have already announced the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. Since MTN Nigeria launched its services 20 years ago, the ICT company has continued to enrich the lives of Nigerians by providing quality services and has made unrelenting investments in varying sectors through the MTN Foundation.

Through its foundation, MTN has invested ₦ 6.07b in health, ₦ 7.86b in education, and ₦ 5.37b in economic empowerment. The Foundation has also invested about ₦ 3.36b in support of Nigeria’s Arts and Culture, Youth Development, and others.

The CEO, MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola had earlier stated that the company intends to celebrate its 20th anniversary with numerous national impact projects. He said,

“We are pleased to announce that our Board of Directors has approved our participation in the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit (RITC) Scheme. This is in response to the Government’s drive towards public-private partnerships in the rehabilitation of critical road infrastructure in Nigeria. We intend to participate in the restoration and refurbishment of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.”

There have been commendations towards MTN on social media for its contribution to the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and providing relief to millions of Nigerians. The company donated $25 million to the Nigerian government for the purchase of vaccines.
