How Indomie Vegetable Flavour Will Harm Your Health, NAFDAC Warns Nigerians

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles following the discovery of undeclared allergens in the product.

In a public alert issued on Friday, numbered 041/2025 and published on its official website, NAFDAC said: “the French authority (Rappel Conso of France) has issued a notice regarding the recall of the Indomie brand noodles, Vegetable Flavour.”

The agency explained that the recall was prompted by health concerns, noting that it was “due to the presence of undeclared allergens (milk and eggs), which may pose a significant health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances.”

Although NAFDAC said the chances of the recalled product entering Nigeria are minimal, it emphasised the need for caution.

It stated that “although the official risk of these products entering Nigeria is low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation, there remains a need for heightened vigilance to prevent possible illicit entry or circulation of the implicated Indomie brand.”

NAFDAC added that surveillance measures have already been activated to block any possible entry of the product into the country.

According to the statement, “NAFDAC has commenced vigilance actions to guard against possible entry of the brand into the country, as acquisition of the product through online purchase or international travel cannot be excluded.”

The agency advised all stakeholders in the supply chain to remain alert, stressing that “distributors, retailers and consumers are hereby advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the distribution, sale and consumption of the recalled foreign brand of Indomie noodles.”

Consumers who may already have the affected product were warned not to consume it, while members of the public were urged to report any suspected sale of the recalled noodles.

Recall that NAFDAC had issued a public alert over the increasing circulation of substandard and unregistered edible oils in Nigeria.

According to the agency, the affected products include FINO, PUR, OKI, SUPER DELICIEX and LA JONIC, adding that the oils — whose sources, production processes and safety standards are unknown — are being smuggled into the country and openly sold under multiple brand names in major markets across cities such as Onitsha, Aba, Owerri, Warri, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ikom, Calabar, Lagos (Trade Fair, Oke-Aarin, Ikotun, Mushin), Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Yola, Gombe, Bauchi, Idiroko, Makurdi and Lafia.
