Zenith Bank made the headlines again as a customer lamented how the Bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) swallowed their ATM card leading to a loss of funds.
In a recently released video, made available to BrandNewsDay Nigeria, one of Zenith Bank branch’s ATMs has been alleged by a customer to have been a haven for wiping off customers’ money from their accounts.
A yet-to-be-identified lady took to the popular microblogging platform X, formally Twitter, to show her displeasure at how the leading Nigerian Bank branch, situated at Owolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos State capital, is used as a tool to wipe off the account of her acquaintance up to the tune of 1.7 Million naira (N1,700,000 ).
In her words, ”Zenith Bank is a thief. The bank is not safe to operate. We came here yesterday night to make a withdrawal only for the transaction to be declined and the card was swallowed by the machine. All efforts to retrieve the card, prove abortive.
”We waited, hoping that the machine would release the card later. After 10 minutes of waiting. We started seeing debit alerts from the phone. We tried to immediately block the account but it failed; until all the money in the account was wiped out to the last kobo.
”We used a GTBank Card on the Zenith Bank ATM and this happened. GTBank and Zenith Bank should refund our money.
She further said, Emannuel how much was the money withdrawn from your account? The man who appeared to be the victim of the account fraudulent act responded by saying, 1.7 Million naira.
Reacting to the lady’s claim, a tweet user said, the customers should have taken their plight to the bank for a resolution instead of coming to social media.
Another X user said this is the best way for it to be resolved as Nigerian banks’ nonchalant attitudes on such issues will get the case nowhere.
A user said it is obvious that it is done by somebody working with Zenith Bank.
