Asake was the night’s big winner at the 2023 Headies Award, winning Next Rated Artiste and Album of the Year for his 2022 record, ‘Mr Money with the Vibe’ — the first to clinch both prizes in the same year.
BrandNewsDay reports that the 16th edition of the prestigious awards held on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta unveiled Asake’s great height and also saw Afrobeats superstar Rema and Afrofusion spearhead Burna Boy clinch the most statues, three apiece.
The 23-year-old Jonzing World signee, Rema emerged as the winner in the Male Artiste of the Year, Digital Artiste of the Year, and African Artiste of the Year categories.
For his part, Burna Boy took home the Afrobeats Single of the Year and Song of the Year Headies both for his hit breakup anthem, ‘Last Last’, and Best R&B Single for his Ed Sheeran-featured ballad, ‘For My Hand’.
The Female Artiste of the Year went to Ayra Starr, while Odumodublvk was crowned the Rookie of the Year.
In the Best Collaboration category, Spyro and Tiwa Savage won for the year’s summer hit, ‘Who Is Your Guy? Remix’.
Meanwhile, the Special Recognition award went to the late Sound Sultan with Selena Gomez earning the International Artiste of the Year award, after her beloved appearance on the Calm Down remix.
