The Association of Young Kwara Professionals in Diaspora (ASYKWAPID) has commiserated with the Olusin of Isanlu Isin, Oba Dr Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, the family of Chief Raphael Adewuyi, and the people of Iwo and Sabaja communities over the death of the local chief and abduction of three others on Friday.
According to reports, the local chief identified as Chief Raphael Adewuyi was killed on Friday, 23rd of June, 2023, by a stray bullet in his room during an attack by gunmen on a fuel station in Sabaja area, Iwo community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara state.
It was further learnt that gunmen abducted the manager, a security guard of the fuel station as well as a cleric of the Christ Apostolic Church during the attack.
The deceased is a local chief in Sabaja town, Iwo community, Isin Local Government Area of the state.
The group, in a condolence statement by its National Coordinator, Abdulwaheed Olamilekan Sulaiman described the killing and abduction as unfortunate, tasking the Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the state police command, and other security agencies to fish out perpetrators of the dastard attack.
The statement reads, “We expressed our heartfelt condolences to the Olusin of Isanlu Isin, Oba Dr Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, the family of Chief Raphael Adewuyi, and the people of Iwo and Sabaja communities over the death of their local chief and abduction of three others on Friday.
“The growing trend of attack on Kwara communities by these agents of doom particularly in rural areas is worrisome and unfortunate. No citizen deserves to conduct their legitimate businesses under the state over the fear of being attacked.
There is a need for the Kwara state government to rise above the unfortunate incident of attacks and killings by ensuring good security architecture in place across the nooks and crannies of the state to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry.
“The Kwara State Government, through security agencies, should as well, double down the security measure and welfare of its people as many indigenes, visitors and tourists will troop into the state for the forthcoming Eid festival. Also, the state government should reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and properties to restore calmness to the people of local communities and travellers before, during and after the Salah’s period.
“As Young professionals in the diaspora, we commend the strides of the government in several sectors of the government in the state. It is however important that the state governor His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq adopt stringent policies that can address the rising insecurity within Kwara’s communities.
Signed:
