BrandNewsDay reports that Senator Ayu has been the object of the crisis destroying the PDP following Nyesom Wike and his camp’s protestation that he has to step down as the party national chairman.
Senator Ayu, who in a statement pledged to give ear to the demands of Governor Wike and his camp. He as well expressed confidence that the reconciliation committee will unite the party through amicable resolution.
Recall that the Rivers State governor, Wike and his camp alongside Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde and Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom had said they would not back down from the call for Ayu’s resignation.
According to Wike, Ayu had before the May 28 and 29 PDP presidential primary election at the house of Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State governor in Abuja promised he would resign from his position as national chairman if a Northerner emerges as a presidential candidate.
Though Ayu did not deny the allegation from Wike and his camp, events in the party have shaken the party from uniting to form a good force against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola TInubu who has been trying all measures to woo Wike and his camp.
However, on Tuesday, the PDP National Chairman through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Yusuf Dingyadi, in a chat with journalists in Kaduna, described Governor Wike as the greatest asset of the party.
He said: “We are trying to see that everyone is giving a fear hearing. As we speak, the local reconciliation committee is meeting with party members at the state level to discuss issues and find solutions to those issues.
“For example, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is one of the great assets to PDP. He is a leader, governor, and somebody who has helped to rescue PDP since time immemorial.
“Since I took over as the chairman of the party to date, he has made tremendous progress in building the party in all 36 States including the FCT Abuja.”
