Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has informed Nigerians that the police are ready to address security issues before, during, and after the general elections in 2023.
The Nigeria Police Force, NPC, in partnership with Solar Security and Consult Company Limited, organized a training on “Election Security Management for Police Officers” in the North-West zone yesterday. The IGP addressed at the program’s launch in Kano.
Sadiq Bello, the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 1’s representation, gave police officers instructions on the best ways to reduce election security management.
In order to secure a successful election, “we are preparing the police officers’ minds to be ready in tackling security difficulties that might come up. The police and other security organizations are under a lot of pressure because the election is just around the horizon.
“Performance of the police has improved, you will believe me that, based on the recent election conducted in Ekiti State, there is hope for the country,” IGP, Baba added.
Also speaking, former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, said that they were confident that election would hold in spite the current security challenges in the country, saying “That is why the IGP initiatives should be commended. One aspect we are very concerned about is the new electoral law, 2022. We believe that our officers should be conversant with the provisions of these laws.”
Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi, a representative of the Kano state government, promised the police and other security agencies of the government’s ongoing assistance, stressing that it would help them to continue defending lives and property in the state.
