BrandNewsDay Nigeria reports that reports the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, APC chieftain, Femi Kayode and former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, have taken swipe at the National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, over his statement in Ogun yesterday.
Alhaji Bola Tinubu, while addressing supporters in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, had narrated how it would not have been possible for Governor Dapo and President Buhari to be in their respective positions without his help and support.
BrandNewsDay reported that Tinubu said it was regretful that Dapo and President Buhari are not giving him the support he needs in his presidential ambition.
Part of the statement read, “It’s over 34 years now that I have been serving them. This one sitting behind me, Dapo, can he say that he would have become the governor if not for me?
“We were together at the MKO Abiola Stadium; he was intimated.
“They didn’t want to give him the party’s flag. I was the one that handed the flag to him.”
Reacting to the statement of Tinubu, Governor Dapo said he was not an emperor and is not accountable to anyone except Ogun citizens.
“I am not an emperor by any chance and this is not my family inheritance. I am holding this position in trust for all the people of this state and I have vowed to be fair, just and equitable and this is the solemn agreement I made between the Almighty God and myself,” he said.
Former Secretary to the Federal government, Babachir Lawal, who also reacted angrily to the statement by Tinubu, former Lagos State governor, said the presidential aspirant was shooting himself in the leg.
Babachir said the statement made by Tinubu is generating anger in the North, as it is taken as an insult to President Buhari.
He said, “Now all these comments about Bola’s Yoruba presidency and his support of Buhari without which Buhari would not have been president is totally out of place.
“Sometimes it is very difficult to support a Yoruba person in national politics if you are not one.
“He wasn’t the only one whose support made a difference. There were many others from all around the country and they are not bragging about it.
“You may wish to know that all of us Buhari supporters are shocked and pissed off by Bola’s speech on this occasion. It is unlike him.
“And this speech is massively trending in the North and being given a negative connotation as you can well imagine. I first read it this morning on an Adamawa group platform and the anger is palpable and all round.
“They have a way of making you regret your support because they eventually make you seem like a trap to your own people. Now all these comments about Bola’s Yoruba presidency and his support of Buhari without which Buhari would not have been president is bullshit.”
Chief Femi Fani Kayode who also disagreed with Tinubu’s statement said it was an error for one man to claim the role of God. He maintained that it is only God and not Tinubu who makes one king.
“God alone is God. He alone gives power. He alone takes the glory for who or what we are or become tomorrow. When a mere mortal says “I made you” it is an affront to God, a stench to His nostrils & a challenge to His sovereignty. Mind what you say lest He chooses to humble you,” he said.
