Having just raised about $340million to accelerate its conversational engagement vision, Gupshup has spread its tentacles to the viable Nigerian market through the acquisition of Dotgo in a bid to provide next-generation conversational messaging services for businesses and brands in the country.

Speaking to a select media audience in Lagos on Thursday via teleconferencing from his America’s Silicon Valley base, Beerud Sheth, co-founder and CEO, Gupshup, said the company is changing the way businesses engage with their customers – “one-on-one with everyone”, declaring that virtually, every customer touchpoint should be transformed with conversational experiences.

These are being enhanced by the company’s premium products like the RBM and RCS (Rich Communication Services)
According to Beerud, RBM and RCS are the standards messaging for the emerging 5g network,` choosing to call or describe them as SMS 2.0, “RBM and RCS optimize, improve and transform the way brands and businesses engage one-on-one with their consumers”, he asserted.

Locating the utility of the Gupshup Dotgo platform, the team which pointed out that the platform handles over 6 billion messages per month for over 39,000 brands sees Nigeria as a very viable market with its array of local and international brands always wanting to improve and have rich engagements with their consumers/customers in the same way the company specializes in providing tailored messaging solutions for all business needs.

“As business-to-consumer engagement becomes conversational, the company is busy enabling more ways for businesses to deliver rich experiences”, disclosed the Co-Founder.

Creatively dividing the business lifecycle into three phases – Marketing, Commerce and Customer Support, Beerud and Dr. Inderpal Singh Mumick, Executive Vice President/CEO, Dotgo, maintained that products, businesses will now be able to build seamless conversational experiences across both messaging and voice channels to connect vividly with their customers using rich and colourful text as distinct from the commonplace SMS.

Also speaking at the media interactive session Femi Fawole, Business Director, Nigeria, revealed that the company’s industry-leading MaaP solution works from the cloud and offers several other telecom solutions to help MNOs accelerate RCS monetization and its adoption.

As a member of the Mobile ecosystem, Fawole confirmed that GushupDotgo carrier partners include Airtel, MTN, 9mobile, Africell, and Orange telecom network operators among others.

He noted that the company’s deep expertise in RCS, cloud solutions, possession of the world’s largest WhatsApp and RCS chatbot directory, and strong industry relationships are some of the edges the organization enjoys across its markets of operation to the advantage of its clients.

While the trio in their different presentations noted that chatbots are the new digital storefronts, they also disclosed that Dotgo assists carriers in building omnichannel chatbots over multiple channels. Hence, they encouraged brands and businesses to be where their customers are through the RBM and RCS messaging Apps.

To the Gupshup Dotgo officials, chatbots are quintessential components of customer engagement that not only enable rich communication for end-users but also help carriers boost sales and reduce costs of customer support.
The Nigerian foray is coming on the heels of the Gupshup acquisition of Knowlarity Communications, a cloud communications firm, providing cloud telephony, contact center automation, AI-powered voice assistants, and speech analytics solutions to boosts its positioning as World’s leading conversational engagement platform for commerce, marketing, and support.
