Our Dear Country Is In A Trying Time, Nothing Worth Celebrating By Hassan Mudashir

Our dear country is in a trying time. How do you expect me to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day when directly or indirectly we are still under the control of the whites.

How can you expect me to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day when the cheapest thing in every country of the world is food, while the reverse is the case for Nigeria where the masses are dying of hunger. Funnily enough, the price of all food items that are produce or plants in this country is very expensive for the common man.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence when we have all the resources that can make our dear country number one in the world in terms of development, but the reverse is the case for Nigeria, we are not among the world developed nations but an underdeveloped nation.

Does Nigeria’s Independence Day worth celebrating? How do you expect me to celebrate our independence when those that ought to be our servant had turned out to be our bosses.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence, when the civil servants that are working like German machines are earning peanuts and some times, not paid, while the public servant that is sitting and discussing what doesn’t benefits the masses are earning big money that even some world leaders aren’t earning.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence when our education and health sector that is the most precious area in every great nation is in a state of disarray.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence when the security of lives and properties are at stake.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence, when we keep losing innocent souls into the hands of Boko-Haram terrorists and bandits in every blink of an eye.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence, when the unemployment rate is on the rise, while they’re busy granting amnesty to terrorists all in the name of surrendering – repentant terrorists.

How do you expect me to celebrate our independence when the compatriots are been denied their civil rights. A country where expressing your mind and making a peaceful movement for correcting the wrongs become a crime.

Why do I have to celebrate our independence, when freedom of speech is guaranteed but freedom after the speech isn’t assured.

Truly this government has failed us, but we have to be candid with ourselves because every blame can’t be put on the government, we all also have our civil rights to exercise. Let’s all try to correct our wrongs by doing the needful, be law-abiding citizens.

Like I do say to my people and I will continue saying it “We are our problems and equally the solution, provided we are ready”. Let all sit back and think about the way we can contribute our own quota to the development of our dear Country.

Shun any act of violence and properties destruction.
Be educated
Be civil
