The Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade disclosed that citizens of his state don’t need social-distancing against the COVID-19, as long as they have their face mask.
Brandnewsday reports that Sen Ayade on Wednesday stated that as long as the face mask is on, there is no room for panic because the coronavirus only attacks once the mask is not on.
Ayade while addressing a gathering with over 100 persons in Calabar to flag off the “No Mask, No Movement” campaign, Gov. Ayade made displace the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health experts stating clearly that face mask prevents contracting Coronavirus disease.
Ayade said, “Because I’m a professor of science and I know how this virus moves; I know its etiology, I know it transmissibility, I know its antigenicity; because I do, I know that once you put on this mask, you already have been protected”.
“You don’t need social distancing when you are properly protected because your mucal glands that secrets the mucus and the mucins already form a network of coats to attack the virus.”
This platform reveals that despite the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stong awareness on social distancing, stay at home and other measures to contain the transmission of the virus yet, Gov. Ayade flouted this recommendation and rolled out his measure.
The NCDC announced that the confirmed total number of people that have contracted the Coronavirus has jumped to 276, 44 discharged and 6 death has so far been recorded.
However, over 1.2 million people have contracted the virus across the globe, while over 272,115 have recovered while 72, 000 people have reportedly died from the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
People that have contracted the deadly virus spend a maximum number of 14 days in self-isolation while people with suspected cases are to be self-quarantine.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting over 127 countries and territories around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harboured in Yokohama, Japan).
